March is a great time for families in the Pittsburgh area to get out, enjoy local events, and make the most of the transition from winter to spring. Whether your family enjoys live theater, music, community festivals, or hands-on activities for kids, there are several fun options happening throughout the month. If you are looking for ways to spend quality time together, here are some family-friendly events happening around Pittsburgh in March.


South Side Kids Fish Fry Food Truck Palooza

March 13 | 5:00–7:00 PM | Velum Fermentation – South Side

This Friday the 13th might just be the luckiest day of the month for families who love great food and community events. The South Side Kids Fish Fry Food Truck Palooza brings several local food favorites together for a family-friendly evening.

Food trucks include:

  • Cold Friends Kitchen serving a Tuna Melt

  • La Palapa featuring Fish and Shrimp Tacos

  • Bado’s Pizza with Fried Fish Sandwiches and Cheese Pizza

  • Vital Sips with sweet treats and drinks

Inside the venue, families can enjoy kids crafts, games, face painting, balloons, and a full arcade. The event also supports a great cause. Proceeds from the dine-to-donate program benefit South Side Kids, an organization dedicated to supporting families and children across Pittsburgh through free programs and community events.


Parents’ Night Out at Attack Theatre

March 13 | 5:00–7:30 PM | Lawrenceville

If parents are looking for a night out while their children enjoy a fun and creative evening, Attack Theatre’s Parents’ Night Out is a great option. Kids will celebrate the arrival of spring with:

  • Garden-themed dance games

  • Nature-inspired crafts

  • Creative play activities

The staff provides snacks and supervision while parents enjoy the restaurants and nightlife in Lawrenceville. Registration is required, and the cost is $30.


Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade

March 14 | 10:00 AM | Downtown Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the United States, making it a must-see family tradition each year. With nearly 14% of the city’s population claiming Irish heritage, the parade celebrates Irish culture with music, floats, marching bands, and plenty of green.

The parade begins downtown at 10:00 AM and typically draws large crowds, so families should plan to arrive early to find a good viewing spot.


“The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac”

March 14 | Byham Theater

This engaging family theater performance follows Freddie and Ivy as they learn about the origin story of the Chinese Zodiac during their Chinese New Year celebration with their grandparents.

The show combines storytelling, cultural history, and fun for children and adults alike. Tickets start at $17, making it an affordable theater outing for families.


Azure Enchanted Melodies

March 15 | 2:00–3:00 PM

Hosted by Autism Pittsburgh, Azure Enchanted Melodies is a welcoming and inclusive concert experience where all behaviors are accepted and encouraged.

Families will enjoy an afternoon of musical storytelling with musicians Emily Gallagher and Caleb Glickman. The story follows a princess who discovers the importance of finding her own path. Children are encouraged to sing, dance, and participate during the performance. After the concert, kids can explore an instrument petting zoo to experience different musical instruments.


Dr. Seuss’s “The Cat in the Hat” Live on Stage

March 18 | Palace Theater

This lively stage adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss story brings the mischievous Cat in the Hat to life with plenty of laughs, surprises, and playful chaos. It is a great introduction to live theater for younger audiences.

Tickets start at $58, and the Palace Theater offers a beautiful historic setting for a family theater experience.


Peppa Pig: My First Concert

March 22 | Heinz Hall

Toddlers and young children will love Peppa Pig: My First Concert, a show designed specifically for kids ages 18 months and older. Peppa and George guide children through a musical adventure where they learn about different instruments and sounds.

The concert is designed to be toddler-friendly and welcoming to young audience members who are still learning theater etiquette. Tickets start at $45.


“1776” Film Presentation at The Lindsay Theater

March 26 | 6:30 PM | Sewickley

Families with older children interested in American history may enjoy this special screening of 1776, the musical that tells the story of the debates that led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Presented in partnership with the Sewickley Valley Historical Society, the event offers an entertaining and educational evening for history-loving families. Tickets are $8.75.


“Beetlejuice Jr.” at the Gargaro Theater

March 26–29

Pittsburgh Musical Theater presents Beetlejuice Jr., a youth adaptation of the Broadway hit based on the beloved movie. This production follows the mischievous ghost known as Beetlejuice in a humorous musical adventure that appeals to older children and teens.

Tickets go on sale March 3.


Neville Island Egg-Stravaganza

March 29 | 10:00 AM–2:00 PM | RMU Island Sports Center Dome

The Neville Island Egg-Stravaganza is a great way to wrap up the month with a fun-filled family event.

Activities include:

  • Egg hunt at 10:30 AM

  • Photos with the Easter Bunny

  • A scavenger hunt for older kids

  • Free ice skating (including skate rentals)

  • Free mini-golf

This event is expected to fill quickly, so families are encouraged to register in advance.
